With today's loss, Michigan fell to 11-46 in the all-time series against Northwestern. The Wildcats have claimed the last two meetings.
Today's loss also halted the Wolverines' six-match win streak and ended Michigan's stretch of 31 consecutive Big Ten regular-season wins.
Junior Mimi Nguyen improved to 22-9 on the season and is now 74-32 in her collegiate career. She earned a share of the 16th position among Michigan's all-time winningest singles players, tied with Michelle DaCosta (2001-05). Nguyen needs two more wins to reach the 15th position, currently held by Stacy Berg (76, 1988-91).
Freshman Emina Bektas and sophomore Brooke Bolender are 4-5 against ranked doubles teams this season.

Michigan Associate Head Coach Teryn Ashley-Fitch
On today's match ... "Overall, I thought we fought pretty well. We just need to clean up a few things. Mimi [Nguyen] played great in singles today. Sam [Critser] did an awesome job to stay in there, fight and pull that one out, and Brooke similarly fought to come back. Those were good wins. We just need to focus on the little things, like stepping into the court, making first serves, moving forward when we have the chance and basically not giving away free points. That's the biggest difference in a close match like this. But I give a lot of credit to Northwestern. They really came to play. We'd love to have the opportunity to face them again."
On regrouping after this loss ... "I expect us to bounce back. We'll work hard in practice this week, and we'll have a few things to work on. But I have no doubt that we'll be ready to play next weekend."
U-M Sophomore Brooke Bolender
On losing to Northwestern ... "We knew this was going to be one of our toughest weekends in the Big Ten. We played great yesterday and were confident coming into today, but they really stepped up in doubles. It's tough to beat a team this good when you lose the doubles point. We just came up a little short. I think we need to play to win, including myself. I think I step back when things get tight. The team that steps up and has the most guts usually wins the match. They stepped up better than us today."
On the team's mindset going forward ... "Nebraska is very good, and if we dwell on this too long, it could definitely hurt us next weekend. Good teams bounce back, and that's what we'll need to do."
