ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Riding a season-high .451 hitting percentage, the University of Michigan volleyball team made quick work of Iowa Saturday night (Nov. 3), defeating the Hawkeyes, 25-19, 25-10, 25-12, at Cliff Keen Arena.

Junior Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) led a balanced offensive attack with 10 kills on the night. Fifth-year senior Claire McElheny (Westfield, Ind./Brebeuf Prep) added nine terminations and led the team with five assisted blocks. Freshman Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) had 11 digs and sophomore Lexi Dannemiller (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) had 28 assists in the three sets.
Erwin had six of her 10 kills in the first set as the Wolverines started out the match with a 25-19 win. Tied at seven, Michigan scored four straight points off Dannemiller's serve. That was capped by a Hawkeye attack error. Back-to-back kills from Erwin made it 14-9 U-M and the Maize and Blue took an 18-11 advantage on an Iowa bad set. Iowa cut the Michigan lead to 21-17 but an Erwin kill and Iowa error put U-M up 23-17. McElheny clinched the set with a kill off the Dannemiller assist. Michigan hit .406 and Dannemiller had 12 assists in that set.
The Wolverines then hit .450 and their defense held Iowa to a -.115 percentage in set two, winning 25-10. Michigan scored the first four points of the set and never looked back. A kill from freshman Krystalyn Goode (River Hills, Wis./Nicolet) made it 10-4 U-M. Junior Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) and Dannemiller combined on a block to give the Wolverines a 14-6 lead. Junior Molly Toon's (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) termination gave Michigan a 19-8 lead and the Maize and Blue closed out the set scoring the final five points. Sophomore/freshman Olivia Reed (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) and Cross had back-to-back kills, Morales added a service ace and Iowa had two errors as Michigan went to the locker room with the 2-0 lead.
Michigan hit .500 and never trailed in the final set, closing out the match in just 1:12. The Wolverines built a 10-3 lead after a Cross kill. It went to 14-4 after a block from McElheny and Dannemiller. Freshman Lindsey Lerg's (Farmington Hills, Mich./Mercy) service ace gave the Maize and Blue an 18-7 advantage. Freshman Carly Warner's (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) kill gave Michigan a 22-11 lead and the Wolverines closed out the match on a Hawkeye service error.
U-M had eight blocks on the night and 42 digs. Both teams had three service aces, while Iowa had nine service errors.
Michigan will host Wisconsin this Friday (Nov. 9) night at 7 p.m. It will be Parents Night at Cliff Keen Arena.
