DES MOINES, Iowa -- Sophomore Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team finished 21st in the discus at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday afternoon (June 8) at Drake Stadium. She garners All-America honorable mention with her effort.
Pendleton fouled her first two attempts before throwing 47.39 meters (155-5) on her final attempt. It was not enough, as she took 21st and did not advance to the final round. The top nine finishers advance for three more throws in the final round.
Michigan will wrap up competition at the NCAA Championships on Friday (June 10), with redshirt freshman Kiley Tobel (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Western) competing in the pole vault at 5:25 p.m. CDT.

Erin Pendleton made her second straight appearance at the NCAA Championships. She has yet to advance to the finals. She finished 12th last season.
It was the fourth consecutive season that Michigan had a participant in the discus at the NCAA Championships.
It was Erin Pendleton's second appearance at Drake Stadium this year. She finished runner-up in the discus at the Drake Relays earlier this season.
Erin Pendleton earned All-America honorable mention for participating at the finals site. Beginning with the 2011 indoor season, USTFCCCA All-America honors will be assigned into first and second teams for all events, both individual and relays. Those individuals and relays that score any portion of a team point at the NCAA Championships will earn USTFCCCA first team All-America honors. The individuals and relays that place between nine and 16 overall will earn USTFCCCA second team All-America honors. Those who participate in at least a round of the finals site for an NCAA Championship will be listed as honorable mention All-America.
