
Peale Named to Academic All-America Second Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan senior women's distance runner Kaitlyn Peale (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® track and field/cross country second team on Thursday (June 23) as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. It is her second consecutive Academic All-America nod after she earned third-team honors in 2010.
Peale is the 21st Wolverine and third trackster in school history to earn multiple Academic All-America honors. She joins Katie Erdman (2006 second team, 2007 first team) and Lindsey Gallo (2004 and 2005 first team) as multiple track honorees.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30, and be of at least sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
During the 2010 cross country season, Peale wrapped the season in 203rd place (22:17.0) at the NCAA Championships to help the Wolverines to a 22nd-place showing. She finished 38th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional with a time of 21:42.55 while finishing 26th in a time of 21:00.1 at the Big Ten Championships as Michigan earned runner-up honors.
Peale participated in two outdoor track events this spring, running the 1,500-meter run (4:47.01) at the Johnson/Joyner Invitational and the 3,000-meter run (10:18.85) at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic. During the indoor portion of the track season, she grabbed a 12th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run (17:08.49) at the Meyo Invitational while participating in two other events.
Peale graduated this spring with a degree in industrial and operations engineering. She is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times each for her cross country and track efforts.
