ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- On the final day of its only home outdoor meet of the season, the University of Michigan women's track and field team picked up three wins on Saturday (May 7) at the Len Paddock Invitational at Ferry Field.
U-M won all three events on the track, with junior Brittani Williams (Detroit, Mich./Jackson) recording the first victory of the day in the 400-meter dash. Competing in the first heat, Williams outlasted the rest of the field down the stretch to win in 57.16.
Sophomore Charlotte Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) was the next Wolverine to grab a victory, crossing first in the 100-meter dash (12.12) by holding off teammate and fellow sophomore Ada Unachukwu (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) (12.30). Cahill also finished runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 24.97.
After missing last weekend's competitions, junior Julian Purvis (Oakland, Calif./St. Elizabeth) returned to the 100-meter hurdles a winner, crossing in 13.71.
Michigan's lone distance competitor on the day was redshirt freshman Courtney Clancy (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake), who placed third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:19.60.
In the field events, senior Lauren Young (Edina, Minn./Edina) had Michigan's highest finish, placing runner-up in the high jump by clearing 1.68 meters (5-6).
In the throws, Michigan grabbed a pair of third-place finishes in the discus and shot put. In the discus, sophomore Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) threw 50.60 meters (166-00) for third-place honors, while redshirt junior Allison Liske (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East) turned the feat in the shot put (14.92 meters, 48-11 1/2).
The Wolverines now turn their attention to the Big Ten Outdoor Championships next weekend (Fri-Sun, May 13-15) at the University of Iowa. Michigan is looking to improve upon its eighth-place finish from last season.
N O T E S
Senior Emily Pendleton competed unattached at the meet, winning the discus (53.19 meters, 174-06) and the shot put (15.16 meters, 49-9).
Saturday's weather was sunny with temperatures in the 60s.
Freshmen Nicola Hallenborg and Megan Pearson competed unattached in the 3,000-meter run.
The majority of Michigan's mid-distance and distance runners did not compete this weekend.
