
DMR Finishes Sixth at Prestigious Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Michigan women's distance medley relay team of senior Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional), fifth-year senior Alisha Cole (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac), sophomore Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) and sophomore Jillian Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) placed fifth at the Penn Relays on Thursday (April 28) at Franklin Field.
The quartet, running the race for the first time during the outdoor season, finished in 11:07.76. Tauro ran the 1,200-meter leg (3:27.70), Cole ran the 400-meter leg (55.20), Addison ran the 800-meter leg (2:04.19) and Smith ran the final leg, the mile (4:40.67).
Michigan had two competitors in the 3,000-meter run, highlighted by freshman Alex Leptich's (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline) 14th-place time of 9:47.34, with fellow freshman Taylor Pogue (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich) placing 20th in 9:53.17.
In the 5,000-meter run, redshirt sophomore Mary Grace Pellegrini (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) clocked in at 16:34.20 to take 12th place.
Freshman Megan Weschler (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) was Michigan's lone participant in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 10:56.10. Redshirt freshman Lindsey Hilton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams) rounded out U-M's distance participants, finishing the Olympic development 5,000-meter run in 17:00.00 to finish 14th.
Senior Jennifer Neville (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) was the lone Wolverine participating in a sprint event, finishing 27th (1:01.43) in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Wolverines have two remaining competitions this weekend (Fri-Sat., April 29-30), participating in the Hillsdale Relays and the Drake Relays.

N O T E S
Michigan is a two-time DMR champion at the Penn Relays, last winning the title in 2008.
Jillian Smith and Danielle Tauro won the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays while at Southern Regional High School in 2007.
It was the second time this season Megan Weschler ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She also ran the race at the Joyner/Johnson Invitational.
The distance medley relay is normally held indoors. It is not a contested NCAA outdoor event.
