
Michigan Closes Out Spring Break Trip with Win at UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and took the first five singles matches off court to defeat Central Florida, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon (March 5) at the UCF Tennis Complex.
The Wolverines started strong, sweeping all three matches to earn the doubles point. At the No. 1 spot, freshman Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) and senior Denise Muresan (Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) shut out their opponent, taking an 8-0 win at the top of the lineup.
Seniors Whitney Taney (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Rika Tatsuno (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) followed with an 8-4 win at No. 2 to clinch the point. The duo of freshman Sam Critser (Moutainview, Calif./Moutainview) and sophomore Mimi Nguyen (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) kept the Wolverines perfect with another 8-4 win at No. 3.
In singles, Michigan did not surrender a set in its first two wins, with Nguyen and Tatsuno earning a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. Bolender was the next Wolverine off court with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 spot to clinch the match for the Wolverines.
Taney picked up the next point for Michigan with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4, with Muresan not far behind, recording a 6-4, 6-3 at the top of lineup. UCF grabbed its lone point of the day with a victory at No. 2, taking a three-set decision.
U-M will be back in action next Sunday (March 13), traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., for a match against North Carolina. Doubles are slated for a 1 p.m. start.

Michigan played its second outdoor match of the year, moving its outdoor record to 1-1.
Whitney Taney earned the 98th doubles win of her career, tying her with Chisako Sugiyama for the most doubles win.
Denise Muresan won the 97th singles match of her career. With three more wins, she will become one of only three Wolverines with 100 career wins.
U-M won the doubles point for the 10th time this season, moving its record to 9-1 when winning the first point of the match.
Brooke Bolender won her fifth consecutive singles match.
Sam Critser and Mimi Nguyen won their seventh doubles match in a row.
