ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's gymnastics standout freshman Sam Mikulak (Corona del Mar, Calif./ Corona del Mar) was awarded his fourth Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his performance Saturday (March 19) against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Mikulak led the charge in the Wolverines' 16.45-point decimation of the Buckeyes, winning the all-around with a score of 87.05 and taking event titles on floor exercise, vault and parallel bars. He also took fourth on pommel horse and sixth on rings, and his floor score of 15.30 and parallel bars score of 14.90 are personal bests.
This is Mikulak's fourth Big Ten Freshman of the Week award for the 2011 season, more than any other freshman in the conference. The Wolverines compete at the Big Ten Championships in two weeks, April 1-2, where Mikulak will be in strong contention for Big Ten Freshman of the Year (highest freshman finish in the all-around) and Big Ten Gymnast of the Year (all-around champion).
