2010-11 Michigan Women's Golf Schedule
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's golf coach Cheryl Stacy released today (Thursday, July 15) the Wolverines' 2010-11 schedule, featuring 10 regular-season tournaments.
"I am very pleased with our 2010-11 tournament schedule," said Stacy. "The strength of schedule is both competitive and diverse. We have some return trips to events we have had success at in the past but added some events that will challenge us. This schedule gives us a chance to play against some of the best teams in the Big Ten as well as around the country.
"With the current team comprised of players from all over the United States and abroad, our schedule gives them the opportunity to develop their games by experiencing different types of courses, grasses and terrains. We are also excited to continue the tradition of our alumni match. This gives us one more opportunity to play before the winter break and the spring season opening in Puerto Rico."
U-M competes in 10 regular-season tournaments -- five fall events and five in the spring season -- followed by the postseason, which begins in Glencoe, Ill., for the 2011 Big Ten Championships, April 22-24, at Northwestern's Lake Shore Country Club. Six of U-M's 10 slated events are return visits from a season ago.
After not hosting a home event last season, the Wolverines will open the 2010-11 campaign with the Wolverine Invitational, Sept. 11-12. A total of 17 teams will comprise the field competing at the U-M Golf Course. In addition to the only home event of the season, the fall schedule has two opportunities for the Wolverines to preview postseason courses.
First, Michigan heads to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Invitational, Oct. 2-3, at the Warren Golf Course, which will be a preview of the 2011 NCAA Central Regional. The following weekend, U-M plays at the Lady Northern Invitational in Glencoe, Ill., for a sneak peak of the Lake Shore Country Club, which will serve as the course for the 2011 Big Ten Championships.
The fall schedule is rounded out with a trip to Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational, Sept. 25-26, and a return trip to Texas State's Challenge at Onion Creek, Nov. 1-2. The fall concludes with an alumni match on Nov. 29 at the Grey Hawk Country Club in Naples, Fla.
After a two-month winter break, the Wolverines tee off the spring season with back-to-back events in February. U-M begins with their annual trip to the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Feb. 13-15, before playing at the Central District Classic, Feb. 21-22. In March, U-M will look to defend its team and individual titles at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, March 4-6, at the White Wing Golf Course.
Two new events close the spring schedule as the Wolverines head to Georgia State's John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate, March 21-22, at the Eagle's Landing Country Club and Mississippi's Rebel Intercollegiate, April 1-3, at the Ole Miss Golf Club.
The 2011 postseason begins with a second trip to the Lake Shore Country Club, April 22-24, in Glencoe, Ill., for the 2011 Big Ten Championships. The NCAA Regional, held May 5-7, will be played at three locations -- Central in South Bend, Ind. (Warren Golf Course), East in Daytona Beach, Fla. (LPGA International) and West in Seattle, Wash. (Washington National Golf Club). The 2011 NCAA Championships will be held May 17-20 at the Traditions Golf Club in College State, Texas.
