EUGENE, Ore. -- As the only two members of the University of Michigan women's track and field team in competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday (June 9), junior Emily Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) finished 10th and freshman Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) placed 12th in the discus throw at Oregon's Hayward Field.
Battling rainy and cool conditions, neither Wolverine advanced to the discus throw event finals. The top nine marks from the first three attempts qualified for the finals and three more throws.
Emily Pendleton competed in the first flight for the Wolverines, recording a toss of 50.51 meters (165-8) on the first attempt. Her next two attempts were not as far, giving her a third-place showing in her flight while waiting for completion of the second flight.
Erin Pendleton was in the second flight, throwing 49.65 meters (162-10) on her first attempt. After fouling the second, she recorded a throw of 50.29 meters (165-0), but it was not enough to advance to the finals.
When both flights were completed, Emily Pendleton just missed advancing with her 10th-place standing, finishing only .40 meters behind ninth-place Skylar White of Baylor (50.91 meters).
With today's event completed, the Wolverines' 2010 season is now finished.
