ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Varsity Tennis Center will serve as host for the first leg of the Midwest Circuit this weekend (July 3-5) as part of the 2010 ITA Summer Circuit. The event marks the 10th time in the past 11 years that the VTC has served as host for a regional event.
Incoming men's tennis freshmen Barrett Franks (Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley Boys') and Justin Rossi (Novi, Mich./Laurel Springs Prep) will be in action over the three-day event.
New in 2010 is the addition of the Mid-Atlantic Circuit as well as a fourth site (New Mexico) in the Mountain Circuit. The ITA Summer Circuit is made up of eight regional circuits (East, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Mountain, Southwest and West) and seven of the eight regions consist of four consecutive open tournaments played during the month of July, leading up to the ITA National Summer Championships (Aug. 7-11) in Bloomington, Ind.
Champions of the national tournament receive wild cards into the main draws of the D'Nova/ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, Oct. 5-10 in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Runner-up finishers receive a wild card into qualifying. Doubles partners must be from the same school in order to receive a wild card.
Over 23,000 men and women have competed in ITA Summer Circuit events since it began in 1993. The circuit provides college (and junior and alumni) players the opportunity to compete in organized events year round.
Updated draws and schedules will be available at the conclusion of each day's competition.
