COLUMBUS, Ind. -- With winds gusting upwards to 30 miles per hour, senior Ashley Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) of the University of Michigan women's golf team battled her way through the second round of the NCAA Central Regional on Friday (May 7) and closed the day in a tie for 80th with a 165 (78-87) at the Otter Creek Golf Course.
Beginning her day in the second wave of players on the course in the afternoon, Bauer opened her round with a bogey on the first hole. A double bogey on the third hole put her at three over before her only birdie of the day on No. 4 brought her back to two over. With high winds across the course elevating scores, Bauer made the turn at 12 over. With the conditions softening on the back nine, she parred six of the nine holes to close at an 87, giving her a 136 two-day total.
Bauer is third among the three invited individuals as Missouri's Julia Potter is tied for 16th with at 154 (76-78) and Drake's Olivia Lansing is tied for 65th at 161 (79-82).
Fifth-ranked Southern Cal (299-302) moved into the lead after 36 holes with a 601 tally and first-day leader Arizona State (297-312) dropped to the second position with a 609 total. Oklahoma State (305-308) moved into third. As for the rest of the Big Ten teams at the regional, No. 8 Purdue is fifth at 623 (303-320), No. 10 Michigan State is tied for eighth at 626 (310-316), Northwestern is 15th at 643 (321-322) and host Indiana is tied for 17th at 646 (318-328).
