GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The 100-meter hurdling pair of sophomore Julian Purvis (Oakland, Calif./St. Elizabeth) and senior/junior Charnee Lumbus (Cleveland, Ohio/Collinwood) advanced to the quarterfinals for the University of Michigan women's track and field team on the second day of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Friday (May 28) at Irwin Bell Track.

Purvis advances to tomorrow's (Saturday, May 29) quarterfinals in the 100-meter hurdles after placing fifth in the first heat with a time of 13.50. Lumbus also automatically moved on with a third-place finish in her heat, clocking in at 13.58. After the 18 automatic qualifications were accounted for, Purvis had one of the fastest remaining times to earn a spot in tomorrow's race.

Senior captain Shana Vinson (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) capped her career in the Maize and Blue with a 16th-place finish in the 400-meter dash (53.89) to just miss the top 12 and a berth to the NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Alexandria Williams (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) did not advance to the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:00.07 for 22nd place.

Lumbus and Purvis will vie for a trip to the NCAA Championships (June 9-12) in the 100-meter hurdles tomorrow at 7:20 p.m. The throwing trio of junior/sophomore Allison Liske (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East), junior Emily Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) and freshman Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) will compete in the discus with a championship berth on the line at 3:30 p.m.
