ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Chris Cameron (Winter Haven, Fla./Lake Region) of the 2010 NCAA champion University of Michigan men's gymnastics team was named the National Gymnast of the Week by the College Gymnastics Association announced Thursday (April 22). Last week, Cameron was part of the squad that captured the program's fourth NCAA team title in West Point, N.Y. Cameron took the all-around crown with a career-best total (90.500).
The award is Cameron's second of the season and third of his career. He last won the award on Feb. 11, 2010, for his all-around performance at the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup Challenge. Michigan has received three CGA National College Gymnast of the Week awards for the 2009-10 season; senior Mel Anton Santander (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) received CGA honors earlier this season for his performance at the Maize and Blue Intrasquad, in addition to Cameron's previous win.
Cameron will represent the U.S. senior national team at the Pacific Rim Championships in Melbourne, Australia. Competition begins April 28.
