ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fifth-year senior Kent Caldwell (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) of the No. 1-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team earned the first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award of his career on Monday (March 1). Caldwell helped the Wolverines to a 352.150 total against the defending NCAA champion Stanford, placing fourth on the floor with a season-best score of 15.150 and fifth on the vault.
Caldwell, formerly ranked No. 1 in the country on the floor exercise, is currently ranked fifth in the nation and second in the Big Ten on vault. Caldwell's honor is Michigan's fifth Big Ten weekly award of the 2010 season and comes two weeks after freshman Rohan Sebastian (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness Catholic) earned U-M's first-ever Big Ten Freshman of the Week award on Feb. 15.
The Wolverines return to competition against fellow 2009 Big Ten co-champion Illinois at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday, March 13, in Champaign, Ill.
