COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team claimed victory in three events at the USA Swimming Long Course Invitational on Sunday (Dec. 5) at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

Sophomore Roman Willets (Whitehouse, Ohio/St. Francis deSales) was the top finisher in the 100-meter freestyle and freshman Kyle Whitaker (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) edged out senior Chris Douville (Dayton, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) in the 400-meter individual medley. Freshman Sean Ryan (Hixson, Tenn./McCallie School) capped the weekend with top of the podium finish in the 400-meter freestyle.

U-M alumnus Davis Tarwater (2003-06) had to fend off the top two finishers in the second heat, junior Dan Madwed (Stamford, Conn./Towson) and senior Neal Kennedy (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska), to take the top spot in the 100-meter butterfly. Sophomore Connor McCarroll (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) was third to the wall in the 100-meter breaststroke, posting an NCAA consideration time of 58.68.

Michigan will turn its attention to academic finals before taking off for its winter training trip. The swimmers will cap their trip to Key Largo, Fla., with the Orange Bowl Classic on Jan. 4. Meanwhile, the divers will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, with the U-M women's swimming and diving team to compete in an exhibition with Marist on Dec. 31.
