ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's golf head coach Cheryl Stacy announced today (Tuesday, Nov. 23) that senior Min Yean Tan (Penang Island, Malaysia/Hills International College [Australia]) and junior Meagan Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) were named captains for the 2010-11 season.
"I am very excited to have named Yeany and Meagan as captains for the season," said Stacy. "Not only have they been the most consistent players on this team, but they also continue to represent the Block 'M' in the classroom as well. Their hard work, determination and loyalty to this program will help lead this team throughout winter practice and into the spring season."
Since her arrival in Ann Arbor, Tan has yet to miss a start in her career -- a span of 40 straight events through the 2010 fall season. She carries a 77.23 career scoring average, which currently ranks fourth all-time. In five events this fall, she is shooting a career-best 75.00 per round, which currently ranks second all-time for a single season. She has led U-M in four of the five events this season and shot a career-best three-under 67 in the second round of the Challenge at Onion Creek on Nov. 1, giving her the second-best individual round tally in U-M history.
Bauer has been a mainstay in the lineup, starting 16 straight events for the Wolverines. She carries a career average of 77.76 per round, ranking among the top 10 all-time. This season, she has averaged a career-best 76.73 strokes per round and shot a career-best one-under 69 in the second round of the Challenge at Onion Creek.
With winter conditioning well underway, the Wolverines will not head back to the course until after the New Year. Following an alumni match on Jan. 29 in Naples, Fla., the Wolverines will open their spring season with a trip to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, Feb. 13-15, for the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Coco Beach Golf Course.
