PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan women's swimmer Adrienne Bicek (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) was named Big Ten Co-Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday (Nov. 2) following her efforts in helping the Wolverines earn a road split against Indiana and Texas last weekend (Fri-Sat., Oct. 29-30) in Bloomington, Ind. It is the first weekly laurel for Bicek, a sophomore transfer from the University of Georgia. She shares the honor this week with Rebecka Palm (Wisconsin).
Individually, Bicek won the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.90) and the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.56) as well as contributed on the winning 400- and runner-up 800-yard freestyle relay teams, meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in every race. As a team, Michigan went on to defeat defending Big Ten champion Indiana, 188-182, but lost to Texas, 211.5-150.5. Through one month of the season, she has swum in 10 different events (six individual, four relays).
It is the second weekly honor that a member of the U-M women's swimming and diving team has received so far this season. Junior diver Amanda Lohman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) earned the season's first Big Ten Diver of the Week award on Oct. 12.
Michigan heads out west this weekend for another double-dual meet, taking on Florida and Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. The meet begins at 4 p.m. PDT on Friday (Nov. 5) and concludes at 9 a.m. PDT on Saturday (Nov. 6).
