PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior forward Justin Meram (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) of the University of Michigan men's soccer team collected his first career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor on Monday (Nov. 1). Meram earns the award for his seven-point week -- three goals, one assist -- in U-M's wins over Bowling Green (Oct. 27) and No. 23 Michigan State (Oct. 30). Meram joins freshman teammate Soony Saad (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn) as this season's Big Ten Player of the Week honorees.
Meram tallied the first career multi-goal game of his career with two goals, including the game-winner, in U-M's 5-1 win over Bowling Green. The senior forward followed up that performance with a goal and an assist in U-M's 3-2 overtime win over No. 23 Michigan State, which lifted the Wolverines to ownership of the Big Bear Trophy with their first win over the Spartans since the 2003 season.
Meram leads the Wolverines with seven assists and four game-winning goals in 2010 and is second on the team in points (23), goals (8) and shots (74). Meram is also among Big Ten leaders in points, assists and goals.
The Wolverines close out the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 6) when they travel to Evanston, Ill., to take on the Northwestern Wildcats. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CDT at Lakeside Field. Michigan will then await its seeding for the 2010 Big Ten Tournament, which is being hosted by Penn State Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 11-14, in State College, Pa.
