ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- For the second time in four years, the Varsity Tennis Center and the University of Michigan women's tennis team will serve as host of the USTA/ITA Midwest Championships (Thursday through Tuesday, Oct. 21-26).
Singles qualifying will run Thursday and Friday as the field of 48 qualifiers will be trimmed to eight and entered into the singles main draw, which will begin on Saturday and conclude on Tuesday and will feature 48 of the region's best competing for a berth to the ITA Indoor Singles/Doubles Championships, Nov. 4-7.
Doubles play will consist of a 48-team main draw, slated to begin with two rounds of play on Friday, with a champion being crowned on Monday (Oct. 25).
Consolation action for each draw will be optional and completed only if time and weather allow.
Participating schools include Michigan, Akron, Cleveland State, DePaul, Detroit-Mercy, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, IPFW, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Youngstown State.
Senior Kari Wig (Cochrane, Alberta/Cochrane) will participate in singles qualifying, while freshman Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan), freshman Sam Critser (Mountain View, Calif./Mountain View), senior Denise Muresan (Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson), sophomore Mimi Nguyen (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan), junior Michelle Sulahian (Valley Glen, Calif./Campbell Hall School), senior Whitney Taney (Edina, Minn./Edina) and senior Rika Tatsuno (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) will all participate in the singles main draw. In addition, U-M will have four doubles teams in the doubles main draw.
Updated draws and results will be available at the conclusion of each day.

9 a.m. -- Round of 16 doubles
10 a.m. -- Two rounds of main draw singles (48 players to 16)

Noon -- Round of 16 singles
