Six Wolverines Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team had six athletes earn U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track and Field All-Academic honors on Monday (July 13). In addition to the individual accolades, the Wolverines were tabbed as a 2009 All-Academic team, posting a 3.150 team grade-point average during the 2008-09 academic year.
Graduated seniors Amber Hay(Detroit, Mich./Renaissance), Tiffany Ofili(Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) and Bettie Wade(Northville, Mich./Novi) as well as juniors Kaitlyn Peale(Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), Danielle Tauro(Manahawken, N.J./Southern Regional) and Jennifer Neville(Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) were all named to the 2009 All-Academic team. For Wade, it marks the second time in her career that she has earned the distinction as she was also honored in 2007 by the USTFCCCA.
The Maize and Blue completed the 2009 outdoor season with a seventh-place showing at the NCAA Championships, led by Ofili's third consecutive title in the 100-meter hurdles and Geena Gall's (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) second consecutive victory in the 800-meter run.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
