
ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit at Varsity Tennis Center This Weekend

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA, will be coming to the University of Michigan this Saturday through Monday (July 18-20). The Varsity Tennis Center will serve as the host site of the third leg of the Midwest regional circuit. It marks the ninth time in the past 10 years that the facility has hosted a regional event.
Current Wolverine men's seniorGeorge Navas(Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prepatory School) will represent U-M in the event.
Each tournament on the circuit includes a 64-player singles draw and a 32-team doubles bracket for both men and women. Competition will begin at 8 a.m. each day. Admission is free of charge.
The ITA collegiate summer circuit is made up of seven regional circuits (East, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Mountain, Southwest and West) and six of the seven regions consist of four consecutive open tournaments played during the month of July. The circuit allows college and junior players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year round. Over 22,000 men and women have competed in circuit events since it began in 1993.
Following regional action, the ITA/USTA Summer National Collegiate Championships will be held August 8-12 on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. Champions of the tournament receive wild cards into the main draws of the D'Nova/ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. Runner-up finishers receive a wild card into qualifying. Doubles partners must be from the same school in order to receive a wild card.
