
Wade Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior co-captain Bettie Wade(Northville, Mich./Farmington) of the No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 Second Team by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be eligible for an Academic All-District nomination, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
Wade, a mathematics major, earned Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Championships honors during the indoor season after winning both the pentathlon and long jump at the indoor conference championships. She also claimed All-America honors for the third consecutive season in the pentathlon with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships. At the Big Ten Outdoor Championships (May 15-17), Wade took second in both the heptathlon and high jump while also finishing fourth in the long jump.
Wade also garnered All-America honors in the heptathlon at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a third-place finish and is the U-M record holder in the pentathlon with a career-best score of 4,366 points.
She is a four-time U-M Athletic Academic Achievement award honoree and two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. In 2008, Wade was U-M's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient for both indoor and outdoor track.
Wade will compete in the high jump, long jump and heptathlon next week for the 10th-ranked Wolverines at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The championships take place next Wednesday through Saturday (June 10-13) at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.
