
Wolverines Pick Up Three Wins at Notre Dame Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team earned three event wins at the Meyo Invitational, held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 6-7) at Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center. Senior Geena Gall(Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) won the 800-meter run, senior Tiffany Oflili(Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) won the 60-meter dash and the Wolverines won the distance medley relay.
Gall earned top honors in the 800 with an NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 2:03.91, bettering Heather Dorniden of Minnesota by nearly a half-second (2:04.39). Gall was also a member of U-M's distance medley relay quartet along with sophomore Danielle Tauro(Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional), senior Amber Hay (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) and senior Katie LaValley(Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) that earned first place with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 11:10.23, bettering a pair of Minnesota relay teams that finished second and third.
Ofili continued her perfect season in the 60-meter dash, winning with a time of 7.49 seconds, three one-hundredths of a second faster than Tori Bowie of Southern Miss. Ofili also took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.30.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Julian Purvis (Oakland, Calif./St. Elizabeth) qualified for the final and narrowly missed taking the top spot, finishing in 8.64 seconds for runner-up, just two one-hundredths of a second behind first-place Loriann Price.
In addition to running on the distance medley relay on Friday, freshman Brittani Williams(Detroit, Mich./Jackson) earned a podium finish in the 500-meter dash, placing third. Williams crossed the line in a time of 1:15.36.
Michigan will return to action next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 13-14) when it travels to the Tyson Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
