Captain's Log with Mike DePietro
THURSDAY, FEB. 19 -- Midterms
I'm officially done with my last set of midterms at the University of Michigan. To be honest, I don't feel as happy as I normally do after completing midterms. That's because it's becoming more and more apparent that my days at this university are numbered. It's something I don't care to think about because I really have loved it here these past four years. I consider myself very lucky because I really couldn't have asked for a better college experience.
The team leaves for Los Angeles on Saturday and I'm very excited. Hopefully the weather will be nice; it has to be better than it is here. We made the same trip when I was a freshman, so it's somewhat like my career has come full circle. The trip was great that year and we did a lot of fun things as a team. Hopefully, this time will be even better. I know that we're going to Jason Jung's house for dinner one night, so the trip is already looking good. Rumor has it there will be Chinese food served, so I might want to brush up on my chop stick skills. They are less than stellar to say the least.
My teammate and roommate, Andrew Mazlin, recently signed up for Netflix. This may have been the worst thing that could have been added to my life. There is this feature where you can watch certain movies on Xbox 360 via the internet. We decided to start watching a television show that my brother recommended, Friday Night Lights. This could quite possibly be one of the most addicting shows I have ever seen. Needless to say, it took over my life for a few weeks. At one point, Andrew disconnected the service "for my own good" as he put it. Since then he has been kind enough to bring it back, and I'm proud to say I have gained control over my urges and only use it sparingly.
I hope to see you all at our home match against Harvard this Friday at 6 p.m. For all you students out there, I know you don't have any midterms to study for, so no excuses! Besides, the Varsity Tennis Center is the place to be on Friday nights in Ann Arbor. However, if you can't make it, I hope you all have a great break.
Also, on behalf of the team, I would like to thank my mother in advance for bringing peanut butter cookies to Friday's match. I know the guys look forward to them every week. Anyone who hangs around after the match can help themselves because there is always extra.
Thanks for reading and I will see you all next week with my special Spring Break edition. Try to contain your excitement.
