Wolverines Chosen as Preseason Big Ten Favorite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After receiving a No. 4-ranking nationally, the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to claim the Big Ten title, as voted by a poll of conference coaches. Illinois, which shared the Big Ten title last season with Michigan, and Minnesota received second and third place rankings, respectively. The conference coaches also selected two gymnasts from each squad for the 12-member Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list. Sophomore Syque Caesar (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy) and junior/sophomore Andrew Vance (Plymouth, Mich./Catholic Central) were named from Michigan.
Michigan returns a strong squad for the 2010 season, including the 2009 Big Ten all-around champion and Big Ten Gymnast of the Year junior Thomas Kelley (Libertyville, Ill/Libertyville) and the 2009 Big Ten still rings champion fifth-year senior Phillip Goldberg (Dalton, Ga./McCallie). U-M also returns junior Chris Cameron (Winter Haven, Fla./Lake Region) and junior/sophomore Adam Hamers (Salem, Ore./Salem South), who, with Kelley and Goldberg, combined for six All-America honors last season.
The Wolverines will face all five of its Big Ten rivals in the regular season, including home duals with Penn State on Jan. 24 and Ohio State on March 20, before heading to Columbus for the Big Ten Championships on April 2.

U-M begins its season on Saturday (Dec. 12) at 7 p.m. in Cliff Keen Arena with the annual Maize and Blue Intrasquad competition. Admission to the event is free.
