Michigan moves to 3-0 to open the season for the second time in the last three seasons. The last time U-M was 3-0 was during the 2007-08 season, head coach Kevin Borseth's first year with the program.
The Wolverines move to 3-0 all-time against Southern Mississippi. The teams have met in each of the last three seasons beginning in the 2007-08 season in the third round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), a 59-45 Wolverine victory and then last season in the championship of the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Classic, a 61-51 U-M victory.
Michigan had five players in double figures for the second time in head coach Kevin Borseth's career. The last time U-M had five in double figures was in a 70-42 win over Wisconsin last season. Coincidentally, Veronica Hicks and Carmen Reynolds were both in double figures in that game as well.
For the second time this season, the Wolverines scored over 80 points. U-M posted 87 points in the season opener against Ball State (Nov. 13). Tonight's 91 points are the most the program has scored since scoring 98 in a 98-55 win over Fordham during the 2005-06 season.
Michigan recorded double digits in assists (21) and steals (14). This marks the first time during Kevin Borseth's tenure that the Wolverines have been in double figures in both assists and steals. Additionally, this is the third consecutive game U-M has had double-digit assists and the second time with 20 or more.
Each U-M player on the roster saw action in tonight's game, the second such contest of the campaign as every Wolverine saw action against Ball State.
The Wolverines have used the same lineup -- Krista Phillips, Veronica Hicks, Carmen Reynolds, Dayeesha Hollins and Jenny Ryan -- in each game this season.
