Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "Overall, the game has been similar to what you have seen the last couple of weeks. We can't seem to get a lead in the game. We can't seem to score and then we give away a goal that I would call an unearned goal for the other team when goals are so precious for our team. We have to gut it out because right now it's not good enough. I like the way we finished the game. I thought we had a little energy, a little momentum, and we got some chances. We've got to generate more. We had 12 shots at the 50-minute mark of the game. There is no way that should happen and that's what we've seen in recent games. We are just not generating offense and puck movement is not good enough."
On MSU's allowed goal after review ... "The [officials] can see it, I can't. I guess the puck went in before the net moved. That's a tough goal to give up first shift of the third period. Now a guy gets behind our defense and whether it goes in or not, that shouldn't happen. We have one 20-goal scorer out there and he has one goal. Outside of that, everyone else is doing what they can. We don't have a lot of prolific offensive players. Our power play struggled and that's one chance you have to outnumber the opponent and get some shots and chances. Our power play is one of the weakest ones in the country. We're working on that, but right now it's just not there."
On adjustments for tomorrow's game at Michigan State ... "I think it's just attitude. It's a continued attitude that you have to take better care of the puck. Defensively we can't give up. There were three unearned goals from our standpoint. You can't give those goals up. They're too precious for us and it's too hard for us to score right now."
Junior Forward Carl Hagelin
On the power play ... "Today, we didn't get in the zone. We had bad breakouts and bad forechecks. We've got to figure something out. We haven't scored consistently in two games. What is deciding the games is special teams. We're going to have to figure something out for tomorrow."
On playing on the road tomorrow ... "We need to focus a little bit more. We can't play and continue the streak of three straight loses. Something has to change and maybe it's going on the road. We have to focus more and play good defense the first period. We've been letting up goals in the first period the last four or five games and we have to stop doing that. It's hard to come from behind every game. We do have talent and talented defensemen. We should be able to keep them off the scoreboard."
Sophomore Forward Luke Glendening
On tonight's loss ... "It's just our mindset and preparation before games. We build off of each loss, as tough as they are to handle. As disappointing as they are every week we're putting together one good period here and one good period there, but we need to put all three together. That includes the beginning of the game and that includes getting ahead of teams. When we're not getting ahead of teams it hurts us early."
On MSU's early third-period goal ... "It's frustrating for sure -- I don't know how else to put it. You can't get down and that's a huge thing. When you get down you're putting yourself out of the game. You saw watching the National Championship game that goals come fast. It's not that we're out of the game, we just need to stay positive and keep going forward."
