ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's gymnastics team earned a No. 4 ranking and a first-place vote in the GymInfo Coaches Preseason Poll. Defending NCAA champion Stanford received the top ranking with eight first-place votes. California and Oklahoma earned No. 2 and No. 3 rankings, respectively.
The Wolverines, who earned a No. 6 preseason ranking last year, are coming off one of their most successful seasons in recent memory, capturing a share of the Big Ten title and taking second place at the NCAA Championships. Michigan returns four All-Americans from 2008-09, including Big Ten all-around champion Thomas Kelley ((Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville), Big Ten still rings champion Phil Goldberg (Dalton, Ga./McCallie), and United States senior national team member Chris Cameron (Winter Haven, Fla./Lake Region).
The Wolverines will meet six top-10 preseason opponents in dual meets this season. Michigan will host No. 6 Penn State on Jan. 24, before heading to No. 10 Iowa on Jan 30. Returning home, Michigan will face Oklahoma on Feb. 20 and close out the regular season against No. 7 Ohio State on March 20.
Michigan will first host its Maize and Blue Intrasquad competition on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. in Cliff Keen Arena.
