BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team opened its fall season on Sunday morning (Sept. 21) against Michigan State and Eastern Michigan on Belleville Lake. The crews split into two flights and each competed in five races. Each of the five pieces was five minutes in duration with a maximum stroke rating of 26 strokes per minute.
U-M and MSU raced two boats in the first flight, while EMU had one eight. The Wolverines and Spartans competed evenly in all five races, with one of MSUs boats taking first four times. The Eagle crew was consistently in fifth.
The second flight included an eight from Michigan and Michigan State. MSU's eight won all five pieces.
"The goal today was to take what weve been working on in practice and apply itversus other crews," said head coach Mark Rothstein."I think we did a good job of that today. Im pleased with how we rowed. We do need to improve upon some things that I saw today. Overall, it was a good day, a good exercise and Im looking forward to getting back to practice this week."
Michigan's next event is on Saturday, Oct. 4, when it travels to Columbus, Ohio, to oppose Ohio State.
