2008-09 Michigan Women's Golf Schedule
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's golf head coach Kathy Teichert announced today (Thursday, Aug. 21) the schedule for the upcoming 2008-09 season.
"We have a great schedule ahead of us," said Teichert. "We get off to a quick start with a lot of early events, but we feel it will only help us during the spring season and that late-season stretch run. With all the challenges we face this season, we are going to gain a lot of experience. Hopefully all of that will prep us for a postseason run."
Opening the fall, Michigan will host the Wolverine Invitational, Sept. 13-14, at the U-M Golf Course. The Wolverines have claimed eight team titles in their home event all-time with five of those coming in the last eight years. Following the home event, U-M will head across I-96 to Michigan State for the Mary Fossum Invitational, Sept. 20-21, at Forest Akers West Course.
The month of October has the Maize and Blue heading to Skokie, Ill., to play at the Windy City Collegiate, Oct. 6-7, at the Evanston Golf Club. The Wolverines follow with a trip to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Lady Northern Invitational, Oct. 18-19. The 54-hole event played at Purdue's Kampen Course will serve as a preview tournament at the site of the 2009 Big Ten Championships. The month will close with the Landfall Tradition, Oct. 24-26, at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. The fall closes with a trip to Austin, Texas, for the Challenge at Wolfdancer, Nov. 2-3, at the Wolf Dancer Golf Club.
Following the winter break, Michigan opens the spring in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, for the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Feb. 8-10, at the Coco Beach Golf Club. Eight days later the Wolverines head to Parrish, Fla., for the Central District Classic, Feb. 16-17, at the River Wilderness Country Club.
Closing out the month and beginning March, U-M will play in the Red Rocks Invitational, Feb. 28-March 1, at the Oak Creek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz. Following a quick alumni match in Naples, Fla., on March 14, the Wolverines will head back to Arizona for the Mountain View Challenge, March 28-29, at the Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. The Maize and Blue will close its regular season with a trip to Columbus, Ind., for the Indiana Invitational, April 6-7, at the Otter Creek Golf Club.
Postseason play begins with the Big Ten Championships, April 24-26, in West Lafayette, Ind. Following the conference tournament, U-M will be shooting for its seventh NCAA regional appearance in the past nine years. The three regional sites for 2009, played May 7-9, will be: the Central at Ohio State's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, the East at Florida's Golf Club in Gainesville, Fla., and the West at Arizona State's Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. The NCAA Finals, May 19-22, will be played at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md.
