
Lumbus, Pendleton Earn Regional Marks in Last Home Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Charnee Lumbus(Cleveland, Ohio/Collinwood) and freshman Emily Pendleton(Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team had NCAA regional qualifying performances Saturday (May 10) during the final day of the Len Paddock Invitational. Lumbus won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.65 seconds, while Pendleton placed third overall in the discus with a toss of 168-10, the best mark by a collegiate competitor.
The Wolverines earned two more event titles Saturday. In the long jump, junior co-captains Tiffany Ofili(Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) and Bettie Wade(Northville, Mich./Farmington) shared first place, both leaping 19-4. Ofili teamed with junior Casey Taylor(Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic), sophomore Alisha Cole(Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) and freshman anchor Jennifer Neville(Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) to win the 4x100-meter relay in 46.12.
Sophomore Alexandria Jordan(Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) nabbed U-M's fastest time in the 400-meter dash with a 56.80 for third place. The time is her best of the outdoor season. Junior/sophomore Allison Nesbitt(Essexville, Mich./Garber) came in third in the 3,000-meter run with a 10.20.18. Cole earned Michigan's best mark in the 100-meter dash, running 12.25 for fourth place, while Lumbus took seventh (12.34). Neville placed sixth in the 200-meter dash (25.34).
In other field events, freshman Allison Liske(Zeeland, Mich./East) barely missed a regional mark with her shot put of 46-6, a season best.
U-M will look to defend its Big Ten outdoor crown Friday through Sunday (May 16-18) at the University of Illinois' Soccer and Track Stadium in Champaign, Ill. The heptathlon begins at 12:15 p.m. Friday (May 16).
