
Chan Named Big Ten Men's Gymnast of the Week

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Sophomore David Chan (Singapore/Hale School) of the No. 5-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday (March 4). This is the first time Chan has received the award, and he is the first Wolverine to win the accolade this season.
Chan led the Wolverines in a narrow loss to the No. 1-ranked Stanford Cardinal Sunday (March 2) in Cliff Keen Arena, winning the vault title (16.000) and taking second place in the pommel horse (15.100). U-M was edged by the Cardinal, 361.300-361.150.
This season Chan has won the vault title twice -- against Stanford this past weekend and at Oklahoma (Jan. 26). He is ranked No. 4 nationally on pommel horse and No. 7 in the nationon vault. Chan won the bronze medal in the pommel horse at the Southeast Asia Games Dec. 10, 2007.
The Wolverines compete against Illinois Saturday (March 8) in Champaign, Ill. Action begins at 7 p.m. CST in Huff Hall.
