
Wade Takes Top Spot in Pentathlon at Michigan Intercollegiate

Day 1 Results
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior co-captain Bettie Wade(Northville, Mich./Farmington) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team placed first in the pentathlon with 3,968 points Friday (Feb. 1) at the Michigan Intercollegiates in the U-M Indoor Track Building. Wade took first place in each event of the competition: the 55-meter hurdles (8.04), high jump (5-6 1/2), shot put (37-3 3/4), long jump (18-5 3/4) and the 800-meter run (2:25.78).
Michigan is tied with Western Michigan atop the team standings with 10 points.
Senior Samantha Smith(South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) came in seventh place, setting a personal best in the high jump with a fifth-place clearance of 5-1 3/4 to finish with 3,139 points on the day. She finished second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.l8), fifth in the shot put (30-1 1/2), third in the long jump (17-2) and tenth in the 800-meter run (3:01.45).
The Wolverines will return to the track Saturday (Feb. 2) at 10 a.m. to compete in the second and final day of the Michigan Intercollegiates in the U-M Indoor Track Building.
