
Martin Named to Sporting News All-Freshman Second Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sporting News unveiled its 2008 All-Freshman teams with University of Michigan true freshman defensive tackle Mike Martin(Redford, Mich./Catholic Central HS) receiving recognition on the publication's second team squad. The Big Ten Conference had four league players represented on the first team and five selected to the second team.
Martin led all U-M freshman defenders with 20 tackles on the season, including 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He played in all 12 contests at defensive tackle, posting stops in 10 of those 12 games. Martin tallied a season- and career-best three stops against Michigan State, Northwestern and Ohio State. He recorded his first career sack vs. Miami (Ohio) and added another during the conference season against the Spartans.
Martin is one of five returning defensive players on Michigan's two deep from this past season.
