Keeping the Leaderboard Full
Michigan placed four players among the top 25 individually for the second time this season at the 2008 Landfall Tradition -- Milena Savich (8th), Louisa Shu (t-15th), Min Yean Tan (t-22nd) and Ashley Bauer (t-25th). Earlier this season, the Wolverines had four players close among the top 25 at the Wolverine Invitational -- Bauer (1st), Lydia Bentez Coln (t-4th), Savich (t-9th) and Shu (t-18).
Seeing Really, Really Red Numbers
Milena Savich's career-best three-under 69 in the second round of the 2008 Landfall Tradition marked the first time a Wolverine broke the 70-stroke barrier this season. Ashley Bauer holds the top round this season after tying the U-M single-round record with a three-under 68 in the first round at the 2008 Wolverine Invitational on Sept. 13. Bauer leads U-M this season with a 75.77 per-round average, with Savich just behind at 76.23.
Longevity Continues
Ashley Bauer has yet to miss a tournament in her career at Michigan, playing in 28 straight events. Bauer is one of two Wolverines with a consecutive-event streak along with Min Yean Tan, who has played in 16 straight events. Milena Savich has begun her career starting the first five events of the season.
Model of Consistency
Ashley Bauer continues to be the 'model of consistency' for the Wolverines. Her current career average of 76.38 is the best for any golfer in U-M history. In 28 career events, she has posted 15 top-20 individual finishes and 10 in the top 10. She earned her first collegiate win in the season opening 2008 Wolverine Invitational and leads U-M with a career-best 75.77 strokes per round. Overall, she has three top-10 finishes in five events this season.
Newcomer Impact
Milena Savich has continued to make a strong impact in her freshman season. She has started all five events this season, posting top-20 individual finishes in four of them. In fact, she has three top-10 performances, with a career-best eighth-place showing at the 2008 Landfall Tradition. She shot a career-best three-under 69 in the second round of the 2008 Landfall Tradition and set a career best with her 54-hole tournament total with 224 (72-76-76) at the 2008 Windy City Collegiate Classic. She is second among the Wolverines, averaging 76.23 strokes per round -- currently the best average for a freshman in U-M history.
Breaking Through
Min Yean Tan had a breakout event at the Windy City Collegiate Classic, leading the Wolverines for the first time this season, finishing tied for fourth with a career-best 221 54-hole total. She tied a career best with a 72 in the first round. She has started all five events, and is third on the Wolverines with a career-best 77.23 average.
Quietly Adding to the Depth
Louisa Shu has become a mainstay in the Wolverine lineup. She has started four of the five events and is averaging a career-best 77.92 strokes per round, which is nearly two strokes better than her freshman season average (80.00). She posted and then tied a career best with back-to-back rounds of one-over 73 in the second and final round of the 2008 Landfall Tradition. The two rounds also helped Shu to a career-best 54-hole tournament total of 230 at the Landfall.
Sister Act, Part 2
Last season, the Wolverines had the Davis sisters, Lindsay and Katelin, on the roster. With Lindsay now graduated, the sisterly act continues this season as Ashley Bauer welcomes her younger sister, Meagan, to the team. Ashley leads U-M with a 75.77 scoring averaging, playing in all five events, while Meagan played in one event as an individual.
