The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team (18-4, 6-4 Big Ten) is back on the road for a pair of Big Ten Conference matches at No. 17 Illinois on Friday (Oct. 31) at 7 p.m. (CDT) at Huff Hall and at No. 20 Purdue on Saturday (Nov. 1) at 7 p.m. at the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility. Both games can be heard live via MGoBlue.com and Saturday's match will be televised live by the Big Ten Network.
The Wolverines, fresh off their first Big Ten weekend sweep of the year last weekend, are looking to improve on their 4-3 record all-time on Halloween night when they face the Fighting Illini. Michigan will also be gunning for its second straight win over a ranked opponent and looking to avenge a 3-0 loss to the Illini earlier this season. Junior Juliana Paz(Porto Alegre, Brazil/Iowa Western CC) and freshman Alex Hunt(Granger, Ind./South Bend St. Joseph) each posted 11 kills in the first meeting between the two teams, while sophomore Lexi Zimmerman(Barrington, Ill./Barrington) added 32 assists in a losing cause.
Saturday's contest sends Michigan to West Lafayette, Ind., looking for its second straight win over the Boilermakers after a 3-1 win in Keen Arena on Oct. 10. In that contest, four different Wolverines reached double-digit terminations with Hunt recording a season- and career-best 21.
The weekend could prove to be pivotal for all three teams as only one game separates the trio in the Big Ten standings at the midway point of the season.
