Davis, Bentez Coln Named Co-Captains for 2007-08

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Head coach Kathy Teichert of the University of Michigan women's golf team announced Thursday (Sept. 6) that senior Lindsay Davis (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) and junior Lydia Bentez Coln (Dorado, P.R./Pendleton School) have been named co-captains for the upcoming 2007-08 season.

"Lindsay and Lydia have always shown strong leadership ability and an even stronger desire to succeed on and off the golf course," said Teichert. "They have always put extra work in on the course and especially in the classroom. Those combinations only add to their leadership skills. They were the perfect choice to lead this program."
Davis, a 2005 NCGA All-American Scholar, has played in 29 career events with 27 starts. She has started the last 21 events and is averaging 79.27 strokes per round for her career. In her three-year career, Davis has helped U-M to seven team titles, six runner-up trophies and team appearances at the 2005 and 2007 NCAA Central Regional. She also helped U-M to its best program finish at the Big Ten Championships with a runner-up finish in 2005. She is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a two-time U-M Women's Golf Academic Achievement Award.
Bentez Coln, the 2006 U-M Women's Golf Newcomer Award and 2007 Academic All-Big Ten selection, has played in nine career events with three starts. She is averaging 81.48 strokes per round for her career. Bentez Coln shot a career best 74 in the second round of the 2007 SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational on March 10-11.
With less than a week of school under its belt, Michigan will open its tournament schedule at the Mary Fossum Invitational Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 8-9) in East Lansing, Mich. The 54-hole tournament, played at Forest Akers West Course, will feature five Big Ten teams among the 10-team field.
