ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Head coach Mark Rothstein of the University of Michigan women's rowing announced Wednesday (Sept. 5) the hiring of new assistant coach Chrissie Monaghan.
Monaghan is taking over the novice coach role for the Maize and Blue. She comes to Ann Arbor from the University of Virginia, where she was a three-year letterwinner from 2005-07. At UVA, she won two NCAA boat championships -- second varsity eight in 2005 and varsity four in 2007. A history major, Monaghan was a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athlete. She was also a member of ACC and South/Central Regional Championship crews during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
Monaghan replaces former assistant coach Molly Gutilla.
The 2007-08 season of Michigan rowing gets underway on Saturday, Sept. 16, when Michigan hosts Michigan State and Notre Dame on Belleville Lake in Belleville, Mich.
