Michigan Head Coach Ronni Bernstein
On her team's performance at the tournament... "I think it went really well. The main goal for a tournament like this is to get the kids a lot of matches, and we definitely achieved that. I thought the returning players did a really great job, and it was good to see the freshmen and what we have there. The freshmen were a bit nervous at the beginning, with it being their first college match, but they were able to relax and step up throughout the weekend. It was a good showing for the entire team."
On the play of Kari Wig... "Kari did a great job. She was pretty nervous at the start of the tournament, which is understandable for a freshman. She still pulled out the matches though, and I think that's the key. Even when she was nervous or not playing her best, she still found a way to win. She got a lot of good matches in and won when she probably wasn't playing her best. I think she's going to get better and better."
On Rika Tatsuno's comeback win over Notre Dame's No. 125-ranked Kelcy Tefft on Sunday... "The thing about Rika is that she stays pretty calm. She's very comfortable on the court. Teryn (Ashley) and Rika really focused on what she needed to do and didn't worry so much about her opponent. Rika is going to get better and better, she has a big game. She wants to do well and she wants to work hard. She's got a huge upside and she's only going to improve."
On the doubles pairing of Chisako Sugiyama and Whitney Taney... "We're going to try to keep them together. Obviously they play really well together. We have to make three solid teams. The goal is to win that doubles point. Right now we're going to have them play together in the fall. We're looking forward to regionals and we think they can really do well there."
