ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's rowing head coach Mark Rothstein has announced the signing of Natalie Eisermann (Key Biscayne, Fla./School for Advanced Studies-Wolfson), Grace Luczak (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Suzanne Maddamma (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) to National Letters of Intent. Earlier today (Tuesday, July 24) the trio was named to the 2007 U.S. Junior National Team, which will compete at the 2007 FISA Junior World Championships in Beijing, China, from Aug. 8-11.
"I think it's great for those three kids," said Rothstein. "I think that they're going to have a great experience and learn a lot. They'll be ready to go when they get here to Ann Arbor and that's a really good thing."
Eisermann will row in the U.S. junior women's eight. She placed sixth in the single sculls final at the 2007 USRowing Youth National Championships in early June. She has rowed for the Miami Beach Rowing Club.
Maddamma will be competing for Team USA in the single sculls. She is coming off outstanding efforts at both the 2007 USRowing Youth National Championships and the 2007 Junior National Team Trials. Rowing for the Steel City Rowing Club, Maddamma won gold in the single sculls at the USRowing Youth National Championships in early June. Two weeks later, she swept her races by open water to meet the USRowing Junior National Team time standard for the single sculls boat. Maddamma also competed at the 2006 FISA Junior World Championships in Amsterdam as part of the quadruple sculls boat.
Luczak will join Eisermann in the U.S. junior women's eight in Beijing. She won a silver medal with the Maritime Rowing Club (Norwalk, Conn.) in the youth eight event at the 2007 USRowing Youth National Championships.
