Postseason's Visits Adding Up
Michigan has been represented in regional competition by the team or an individual in six of the last seven seasons, making team appearances in 2001, '02, '05 and now '07. Laura Olin (2004) and Amy Schmucker (2006) have made Central Regional appearances as individuals. In 2002, the Wolverines finished sixth at the Central Regional in East Lansing, Mich., to advance to their first appearance at the NCAA Championships, where the Maize and Blue finished 17th.
Postseason Experience for the Maize and Blue
Michigan has two members of its current five-member Central Regional team that have played in the NCAA postseason. Seniors Brianna Broderick and Ali Stinson both played in the 2005 Central Regional at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas. The Wolverines closed 15th as a team and did not advance, but Broderick led the Wolverines, tying for sixth individually. She lost on the first hole of an individual playoff to miss out on advancing to the NCAA Finals. Stinson closed her 2005 regional tied for 63rd.
Broderick Earns All-Big Ten Honors
Brianna Broderick was named to the 2007 All-Big Ten Conference second team, and fellow senior Ali Stinson was awarded the Big Ten Sportsmanship Honor at the postseason awards ceremony after the Big Ten Championships at Michigan State's Forest Akers West Course. Broderick -- an All-Big Ten first team selection in 2005 -- became the second Wolverine in the history of the women's golf program to become a multiple all-conference selection, joining Laura Olin (2002-05), who was a first team selection in 2005 and a second team in 2004. Broderick is one of eight Wolverine golfers in program history to receive the conference honor.
Closing Out the Regular Season Right, Adding 28th Trophy
With the team win at the Indiana Invitational on April 9-10, Michigan now has 28 team titles in the history of the program. Of those 28 titles, 22 have come under U-M coach Kathy Teichert. The first-place trophy at the Indiana Invitational marks the second team victory this season after the Maize and Blue won its own Wolverine Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 this past fall. Michigan has won at least one tournament in each of the last four seasons with nine total during that span -- two (2003-04), four (2004-05), one (2005-06) and two (2006-07).
Home Cookin' ... U-M Golf Course Yields Success Yet Again
Early in the fall season, Michigan won its fourth Wolverine Invitational team title in the last five years. The title gave the Wolverine program its eighth trophy in 23 total events at the U-M Golf Course, putting it atop the record book for most team titles in the Ann Arbor event. With Brianna Broderick's medalist honor, a Michigan player has won the individual title at the Wolverine Invitational four times in the last eight events held at the U-M Golf Course.
Streak of Medalists Continues
After Brianna Broderick won her playoff at the Wolverine Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 to capture medalist honors, she helped extended the Wolverines streak of individual tournament victories. The Maize and Blue have at least one medalist in each of the last seven seasons. Overall, U-M has racked up 13 total individual titles over the last seven years. In the program's history there have been only 23 total individual wins.
Seniors Continue to Be Lineup Staples
By playing in the Big Ten Championships, Brianna Broderick and Ali Stinson played in their 46th straight tournaments for U-M. Broderick and Stinson have yet to miss a tournament in their entire career. In fact, the duo has started in all 46 of those tournaments. Former Wolverine Laura Olin holds the U-M record for consecutive tournaments, playing in 50 straight during her career.
More From the Starting Lineup
Brianna Broderick, Ali Stinson and Ashley Bauer have started all 11 tournaments this season. Together they have helped the Wolverines with 18 top 20, 12 top 10 and seven top five individual finishes this season. All three are 1-2-3 in scoring averages on the team C Broderick (75.41), Stinson (76.66) and Bauer (77.19). The trio also aided the Maize and Blue to the team titles at the Wolverine Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 and Indiana Invitational on April 9-10. All three are expected to start at the NCAA Central Regional.
What a Final Season
Brianna Broderick has led the Wolverines in six-of-11 events this season. She started the season finishing with four straight top five finishes to lead the Maize and Blue. She won her second career tournament in a playoff at the Wolverine Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. This season, she has five top-10 finishes and is leading the team averaging a career-best pace of 75.41 strokes per 18 holes, which ranks second all-time in U-M history.
Tying The Career Best Score, Yet Again
With her final-round one-under 70 at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship (Oct. 13-15), Brianna Broderick tied her career best for a single-round tally. Two weeks earlier Broderick set a new career best with a one-under 70 in the first round of the Wolverine Invitational, an event she went on to win. In both career-best rounds she posted 13 pars, three birdies and two bogeys. She has six rounds par or better this season raising her career total to 14.
Just Missing Another Top Total
Brianna Broderick's five-over 218 total at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship was a season-best 54-hole tournament total and just barely missed her career-best total of 217, set at 2004 Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate (Nov. 1-2). In seven 54-hole events this season, Broderick is averaging 225.13 per tournament.
Stinson Leads Way at Big Ten's
Ali Stinson, who played in her fourth Big Ten Tournament, led the Wolverines for the just second time this season as she collected her first top 10 finish at the conference championship after tying for eighth. Along the way she set a new career-best 72-hole tournament total with a 305 tally. She smashed her prior best total of 312 set at the 2006 Big Ten Championship.
Stinson Continues to Produce
Ali Stinson posted her fourth top-10 finish of the season after tying for eight at the Big Ten Championships (April 27-29). In her final season, she has started all 11 tournaments and is averaging a career-best 76.66 strokes per round. She tied her season-best for the four times this season with an even-par 72. Overall, she hast started 46 straight tournaments for the Wolverines and is averaging 77.68 strokes per round.
Playing Like a Veteran
Ashley Bauer continues to show the maturity of a veteran in her first season with the Wolverines. She is third on the team with a 77.19 scoring average after starting in all 11 tournament this season. Her tie for fourth place individually at the Indiana Invitational on April 9-10 gave her back-to-back top five finishes. She was fifth at the Mountain View Challenge on March 24-25. She closed the regular season finishing as the top Wolverine in the three of the last four tournaments.
Bauer Takes It Deep in Arizona
Ashley Bauer smashed her previous 54-hole tournament best with a four-under 212 at the Mountain View Challenge on March 24-25. Her previous best total was 226 at the Wolverine Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. During her tournament best, she had three straight sub-par rounds with a career-best two-under 70, and back-to-back one-under 71s. Prior to the Mountain View she posted a career-best of 72.
Ratigan Gives Wolverines Second Rookie Punch
Andrea Ratigan may have missed the first tournament of the season, but she has been a staple of the lineup after that, starting the remaining 10 tournaments. In her first season she is averaging 80.62 strokes per round. She posted a career-best one-under 71 in the second round of the Mountain View Challenge on March 24-25, marking her first career round under par. With that round in the books, she tallied a career-best 54-hole tournament total with her 222 posting.
Davis Gets First Top 10 Career Finish
Lindsay Davis' tie for sixth individual finish at the Red Rocks Invitational on March 3-4 was a career-best finish. She topped the 11th place showing she had at the 2005 Wolverine Invitational (Oct. 1-2) and the 2006 Big Ten Championships (April 28-30). Overall she had three top-20 finishes and one top 10 this season.
Davis Gets New Career Best Total
With her second-round one-under 70 at the Wolverine Invitational, Lindsay Davis set a new career best for a single-round tally. During the round she posted 11 pars, four birdies (Nos. 3, 7, 13, 17) and three bogeys (Nos. 4, 5 and 18). Davis topped her previous single-round best of 72, which she has recorded three times in her career. Overall, it marked her fourth career round under par. This season she has averaged 79.00 strokes per round.
