Wolverines Claim Relay Title at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team competed at the Drake Relays (April 26-28) hosted by Drake University held at Drake Stadium.
In the 100m hurdles (special section), sophomore Tiffany Ofili (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti HS) claimed fifth-place, resetting her own U-M Outdoor record, with an NCAA regional qualifying, career-best time of 12.99. Ofili shaved off 0.02 seconds from her previous best of 13.01.
The Maize and Blue claimed first place in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 54.82. Sophomore co-captain Bettie Wade (Northville, Mich./Farmington HS) opened up the relay, with freshman Charne Lumbus (Cleveland, Ohio/Collinwood HS) running second. Sophomore Katie LaValley (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) ran the third leg, while Ofili ran the anchor leg.
The second NCAA regional qualifying time for U-M was posted in the 4x400m relay prelims. The Wolverines clocked in with the 11-quickest time -- a regional mark of 3:40.94. LaValley ran the opening leg, passing the baton to Wade. Sophomore/freshman Shana Vinson (Detroit, Mich./Mumford HS) and junior Serita Williams (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee HS) ran the third and fourth leg, respectively.
Sophomore Casey Taylor (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic HS) led Michigan in the field events, posting a season-best jump of 18-10 3/4 in the long jump to finish 14th.
The Wolverines return to Ann Arbor to host their only outdoor home meet of the season, the Len Paddock Invitational on Friday and Saturday (May 4-5).
