CARMEL, Ind. -- Paced by a final round one-over 73 from senior Brianna Broderick (Richmond, Mo./Richmond HS) and three two-over 74s from freshman Ashley Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS), senior Ali Stinson (Penticton, British Columbia/Penticton Secondary) and freshman Andrea Ratigan (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino HS), the University of Michigan women's golf team posted a tournament-best 295 in the final round to capture the 2007 Indiana Invitational team title Tuesday (April 10) at Crooked Stick with a 603 36-hole total.
With temperatures staying in the mid-30s throughout the first round, the Indiana Invitational was reduced to 36 holes after the first day of play was downsized to just 18 holes. Battling through the weather conditions, the Wolverines posted a 308 first round total putting them in fourth overall.
As the sun came out on the second day, temperatures averaged nearly 20 degrees warmer and Michigan used the weather change to heat up its game. With the final round 73 from Broderick and three 74s from Bauer, Stinson and Ratigan, U-M posted a tournament-low 295 final round to vault to the lead and win its 28th overall team title with a season-best 603 36-hole total.
For the third straight tournament, Bauer led the Wolverine charge, placing fourth with a career-best 148 36-hole total -- her second straight top-five finish. After opening with a two-over 74 in the first round, she found herself tied for second -- just two shots out of the lead. Bauer closed the tournament with her second straight two-over 74 to close with a 148 total, which was four strokes out of medalist honors, grabbed by Illinois' Seul Ki Park who closed at even-par 144 (72-72).
Stinson followed Bauer as she posted a top-10 finish -- a tie for sixth -- with a career-best 150 36-hole tournament tally. After opening with a 76 in the first round, she came back with a two over 74 in the final round helping her to her 11th career top-10 finish.
After not playing in the last tournament, junior Lindsay Davis (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) found herself back in the starting lineup and posted her third top-20 finish of the season, tying for 16th with a 153 total. Davis opened with a 78 and followed with a 75 as she tallied her sixth career top-20 finish.
Both Ratigan and Broderick tied for 22nd individual posting 154 36-hole tournament totals. For Ratigan, she opened with an 80, but rallied back in the final round with a two-over 74. Like Ratigan, Broderick opened with a disappointing 81, but roared back in the final round with two birdies and 13 pars to closed with a team-best 73 in the final round.
Senior/junior Julie Inwood (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea HS) played as an individual and posted a 164 tournament total after round totals of 85 and a season-best-tying 79.
With the regular season schedule complete, the Wolverines now turn their attention towards the Big Ten Championships in East Lansing, Mich., Friday through Saturday, April 27-29. The 72-hole championship will be played at Michigan State's Forest Akers Golf Course. Earlier this fall, the Wolverines were fourth in the Lady Northern Invitational on Sept. 16-17, which is the preview for Big Tens.
