Michigan Coach Kathy Teichert
On the weekend ... "We got off to a good start. I thought we were in a good position to make a move going into the final round today. We had three players play exceptionally well, and we just didn't get the depth and get the play from three players when we needed it. If you had asked me going to into the tournament 'would they not help you' I would have said no. It was just a little disappointing. We have to step up at the right times. We didn't get the job done today. The goal going into the tournament was to average 300 and get a good idea what the Big Ten was going to be like this year. This weekend shows that we are going to have to play better than 300 to be a contender and an exceptional team this year. The level has been raised. Players are playing phenomenal golf these days. Without question we are going to have to get on that bandwagon."
On the play of Brianna Broderick ... "Bri has set some lofty goals this year. A lot of it stems from playing so well in her sophomore year, being named as an All-Big Ten performer, to practically collapsing in her opinion last year. To see her come back and play well is exciting and it's refreshing. I feel the added responsibility of being a leader and one of the captains for this team has helped. It has shown her that she not only needs to lead by example, but she also has to play like a leader on the course. I think that is a challenge she is ready for and relishes taking on."
On the play of Ashley Bauer ... "There is no question I was pleased with the way she performed this weekend. Coming in as a freshman, the nerves, the expectations and going right into playing against Big Ten competition, I couldn't have been happier for her with the way she played. It was nice to see her handle everything so well. She has already immediately contributed to this team and that is great to see. I think you are going to see a lot of things from her in the future."
U-M Senior Brianna Broderick
On getting off to a good start individually ... "Michigan State's course has always been pretty nice to me, but I am pretty satisfied (with the way I finished). I struggled last year, had a rough summer and now I am just now getting back into it, working on the things I need to work on and just trusting it on the golf course."
On if the weekend's performance helps with the team's confidence ... "It does give us confidence. We were just right there. We have a lot of depth to our team. We have the potential; it just needs to show from a couple of other players. But it will. It just takes time. We are right there. I think we are going to be contending for championships all throughout the year."
U-M Freshman Ashley Bauer
On playing so well in her first career tournament ... "It was a lot of fun. I really had a good time. It gives me a big confidence boost. It was a good feeling to play so well in my first tournament after really not knowing what to expect."
On if she felt any pressure playing with so many good teams ... "I pretty much stuck to my game. I really didn't feel that much pressure. Coach (Teichert) and the rest of the team just kept telling me there is no pressure and I shouldn't feel any. They just told me to go out and do the best that I could in my first tournament. That is just what I tried to do. I just wanted to help the team in any way I could."
