Edwards Named Drake Relays Women's Top Performer

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Sophomore Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team was named the Drake Relays Women's Top Performer on Monday (May 1), while Drake's Christian Cantwell was named the Men's Top Performer.

Edwards assisted the Wolverines to their third straight Drake Relay distance medley relay title as well as the 4x800m title and third place in the 4x1,600m relay. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native ran the anchor leg for the DMR squad, with a split time of 4:39.04, assisting the Maize and Blue to a scorching time of 11:06.13, just 0.12 seconds shy of the 1999 Michigan outdoor record time of 11:06.01.
In the 4x800m relay, Edwards ran a split time of 2:09.08 on the third leg, helping the Wolverines to claim first place with a time of 8:39.59, which was 9.06 seconds short of the Michigan outdoor record she assisted in posting this year at the Sea Ray Relays (April 15).
On the final day of competition Edwards ran the anchor leg for U-M in the 4x1,600m relay, clocking in a split time of 4:51.04 as Michigan placed third with a time of 19:39.03.
Edwards and the Wolverines come back to Ann Arbor to host their only outdoor home meet of the season, the Len Paddock Invitational, and celebrate the 100th year of Ferry Field on Friday and Saturday (May 5-6).
