Michigan Heading to Rose Bowl to Play Southern Cal

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football team was selected to play in the Rose Bowl for the 20th time in school history, and will face the Pacific-10 Conference co-champion University of Southern California Trojans on New Year's Day in Pasadena, Calif. The Wolverines (11-1) will be making their NCAA-leading 32nd consecutive bowl appearance and third trip to the Rose Bowl in the past four years.
Michigan finished the season ranked No. 3 in the Bowl Championship Series standings released today (Dec. 3), .010 behind second-ranked Florida (12-1) after finishing the regular season third in the USA Today Coaches' poll and Harris Interactive poll. The Gators had a cumulative BCS ranking of .9445 to the Wolverines' .9344. Michigan was tied for second in the computer rankings with the Gators. U-M received 1,444 votes in the coaches and 2,632 votes in the Harris poll. Michigan is third in the Associated Press media poll, three votes behind Florida (1,529 to 1,526).
U-M has qualified for a Bowl Championship Series game for the fourth time in school history (three Rose, one Orange). The Wolverines will be making the program's 38th bowl trip this season.
The Rose Bowl game will be televised nationally by ABC on New Year's Day at 4:30 p.m. EST.
