Silva Misses 'C' Final in 100 Breast by Slim Margin

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Junior Valeria Silva (Lima, Peru/Alexander Von Humboldt) of the No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team earned a 25th place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke Thursday (Nov. 30) at day one of the U.S. Open at Purdue's Boilermaker Aquatics Center.
Silva, who owned a seed time of 1:03.58 heading into the event, touched the wall in 1:13.98 after a first-split mark of 34.85 and a second-split clip of 39.13. She narrowly missed qualifying for the 'C' final, falling .20 seconds behind the 24th-place finisher.
This is the only event the junior will compete in this weekend. The rest of the Wolverines' squad will participate in the Eastern Michigan Invitational Friday and Saturday (Dec. 1-2) at Jones Natatorium in Ypsilanti, Mich. Action begins Friday at 6 p.m. and continues Saturday at 9 a.m.
