PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior Lindsey Smith (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team has been named Big Ten co-Swimmer of the Week by the league office, following her excellent performance at the Texas A&M Invitational (Nov. 17-19). Smith shares the award with Wisconsin's Yi Ting Siow.

Smith highlighted a stellar weekend with an NCAA 'A' time in the 200-yard freestyle, while all three of her individual finishes set season bests. Her effort helped Michigan take second in the seven-team standings. U-M's 1,048 points fell shy of the winning No. 10-ranked Texas A&M Aggies (1,282.5 points) and bettered the No. 9-ranked team in the nation Southern Methodist (685 points), which placed third.
Smith anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay team to a runner-up, NCAA consideration finish to begin the weekend. She then clinched third in the 50-yard freestyle (23.04), narrowly missing an NCAA automatic-qualifying time. Capping off the evening, Smith anchored the 400-yard medley relay team to a third-place, NCAA consideration time of 3:43.52.
On Saturday, Smith produced her top time, earning an NCAA automatic-qualifying time in the 200-yard freestyle as she touched the wall third at 1:46.92. Swimming in two relays once again, the Dexter, Mich., native helped the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.82) and the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:16.19) teams each claim third. Both relay times eclipsed NCAA 'B' standards.
In the final day of competition on Sunday, she earned her third straight third-place individual finish, clocking 49.66 in the 100-yard freestyle. In the final race of the weekend, Smith anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay team to yet another third-place and consideration finish (3:20.32).
Smith and the Wolverines return to the pool next weekend for two weekend events. Valeria Silva (Lima, Peru/Alexander von Humboldt) and transfer senior Melissa Jaeger (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) travel to West Lafayette, Ind., for the U.S. Open. The remaining athletes from the women's swimming and diving team will compete at the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 1-2) at Jones Natatorium.
