What a Fall So Far C Rack Up Four Straight Top Fives
In all four tournaments this fall season, Brianna Broderick has led the Wolverines and finished among the top five individually in each event. To kick off the 2006-07 season, she tied for runner-up at the Lady Northern Invitational (Sept. 16-17) and followed with her second career medalist honor at the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1). She followed those performances with a tie for fifth at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship (Oct. 13-15) and a tie for third at the Landfall Tradition (Oct. 27-29). For her career she now has 20 top 20 finishes, 14 top 10 and seven top five finishes individually.
Shooting Up the Rankings
Brianna Broderick is currently rated the top Big Ten Golfer and sits at No. 13 as an individual in all of collegiate golf with a 71.56 rating by the Golfweek/Sagarin Rating System. So far in 2006, she has posted four straight top five finishes individually to help her stay among some of the NCAAs elite golfers. Florida State's Caroline Westrup is the top rated golfer in the country with a 69.98 rating.
Tying The Career Best Score, Yet Again
With her final-round one-under 70 at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Brianna Broderick tied her career best for a single-round tally. Two weeks earlier Broderick set a new career best with a one-under 70 in the first round of the Wolverine Invitational, an event she went on to win. In both career-best rounds she posted 13 pars, three birdies and two bogeys. Overall, it marked her third round under par this season and 11th career round under par. She is currently averaging a career- and U-M record-best pace of 73.42 strokes per 18 holes.
Just Missing Another Top Total
Brianna Broderick's five-over 218 total at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship was a season-best 54-hole tournament total and just barely missed her career-best total of 217, set at 2004 Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate (Nov. 1-2). In four tournaments this season, Broderick is averaging 220.25 per 54-hole tournament.
Seniors Continue to Be Lineup Staples
By playing in the Landfall Tradition (Oct. 27-29), Brianna Broderick and Ali Stinson played in their 39th straight tournaments for the Maize and Blue. The duo has yet to miss a tournament in their entire career. In fact the duo has also started all 39 of those tournaments. Former Wolverine Laura Olin holds the U-M record for consecutive tournaments, playing in 50 straight in her career.
More From the Starting Lineup
Brianna Broderick, Ali Stinson, Lindsay Davis and Ashley Bauer have started every tournament this season. Together they have helped the Wolverines with 10 top 20, seven top 10 and five top five individual finishes this fall. They also helped the Wolverines to the team title at the Wolverine Invitational. All four are expected to start the final fall tournament in Hawaii.
Miss Consistency Keeps On Going
Arguably one of the most consistent golfers in Michigan history, Ali Stinson opened her senior campaign by earning the fourth top-five finish of her career, tying for fifth at the Lady Northern Invitational. She followed that with a top 20 performance at the Wolverine Invitational, helping the Maize and Blue to its fourth title in the last five years. With her tie for eighth place at the Landfall Tradition, Stinson record her second top 10 of the season and her third top 15 performance of the four fall tournaments. She is second on the team with a 76.50 scoring average. In 39 career tournaments, Stinson has 17 top 20 finishes for the Wolverines.
Playing Like a Veteran
In her first two collegiate tournaments, Ashley Bauer collected two top-20 finishes with a tie for seventh at the Wolverine Invitational, and a tie for 17th at the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 16-17). With her second-round, one-over 72 at the Wolverine Invitational, she lowered her career best single-round total, topping the 74 she had in the third round of the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 16-17). In her first season, Bauer is averaging 78.50 strokes per round.
Ratigan Starting to Find Comfort
With her first round 77 at the Landfall Tradition (Oct. 27-29), Andrea Ratigan posted a career-best single round tally, topping the 78 she carded in the second round of Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship (Oct. 13-15). She then tied that exact mark again in the final round posting her second 77 of the tournament, which helped her to a career-best 234 54-hole tournament total. After not playing in the season opening tournament, Ratigan has been in he starting lineup the last three tournaments. She has continued to improver as she is averaging 80.44 strokes per round which is fifth among the Wolverines.
Davis Gets New Career Best Total
With her second-round one-under 70 at the Wolverine Invitational, Lindsay Davis set a new career best for a single-round tally. During the round she posted 11 pars, four birdies (Nos. 3, 7, 13, 17) and three bogeys (Nos. 4, 5 and 18). Davis topped her previous single-round best of 72, which she has recorded three times in her career. Overall, it marked her fourth career round under par.
Home Cookin' ... Wolverines Add the Hardware Again
Michigan won its fourth Wolverine Invitational team title in the last five years. The title gives the Wolverine program its eighth trophy in 23 events at the U-M Golf Course, putting it atop the record book for most team titles in the Ann Arbor event. With Brianna Broderick's medalist honor, a Michigan player has won the individual title at the Wolverine Invitational four times in the last eight events held at the U-M Golf Course.
Keeping the Trophy Case Full
Michigan has now won at least one tournament in each of the last four seasons. The title also marks the 27th for the Maize and Blue in the history of the program. The team crystal marks U-M coach Kathy Teichert's 20th title in her 14 seasons with the Wolverines.
Chalk Up No. 2 In the Stellar Career
After winning the playoff, Brianna Broderick's medalist honor at the Wolverine Invitational was the second in her collegiate career. She won her first title at the 2004 Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 18-19), and also has five top-five career finishes. Broderick made it back-to-back tournaments raising a trophy, after she opened the season earning the runner-up trophy at the 2006 Mary Fossum Invitational.
Continuing the Postseason Trend
As the fall season continues to be a success for Michigan, the Wolverines will be looking to keep their postseason successes rolling. Michigan has had a team or individual representative receive invitation to an NCAA Regional in five of the last six years. In fact, this year's Maize and Blue will host the 2007 NCAA Central Regional at the U-M Golf Course (May 10-12). In addition to the NCAA success, the Wolverines have also finished among the top five at the Big Ten Championships in five of the last six years as well, including the program's best finish ever, closing as the runner-up in 2005. U-M has also had at least one player be named an All-Big Ten Golfer the last three straight years.
